Rolex Daytona 16518 "Zenith" Inverted 6
Rolex Daytona 16518 "Zenith" Inverted 6
In 1988, Rolex retired its 6xxx series Daytonas and introduced the updated ref. 165xx Daytona with a modern 40mm case, sapphire crystal, and a modified Zenith El Primero self-winding movement.
Three well-known executions with a metal bracelet include stainless steel (ref. 16520), two-tone (ref. 16523), and 18k yellow gold (ref. 16528). However, there was a fourth addition to the family - the ref. 16518, which was executed in yellow gold but came on a leather strap.
This model is an X serial which dates it back to 1991 and features a 'racing dial' with applied 18k yellow-gold Arabic numerals. The white dial is glossy and has three chronograph counters with black outer rings, including an inverted 6 on the bottom counter. The watch has a thick case and sharp edges, and the yellow gold has developed a nice patination. It comes with a black Rubber B strap, the original brown Rolex leather strap, and an 18k yellow-gold folding clasp. An interesting detail is that the reference number of the watch is stamped inside the clasp.
