Rolex Daytona 116520
Rolex Daytona 116520
With its striking, contrasted dial and iconic case silhouette, the Rolex Daytona stands out among timepieces. The ref. 116520 model, launched in 2000, introduced Rolex's first fully in-house chronograph movement, replacing the 1988 ref. 16520.
The watch's 40mm steel case, screw-down pushers, crown, and bezel create a distinctive look, framing the unmistakable dial configuration.
The dial features a contrasted design with black, white, and metal tones, presenting a balanced and symmetrical date-less display. The small red "Daytona" script adds a signature touch. Applied hour markers and a 12 o'clock Rolex crown enhance the style, while lume-accented baton hands indicate the time.
Notably, the 116520 introduced the acclaimed Rolex caliber 4130, replacing the modified Zenith El Primero-based caliber 4030. The caliber 4130 has become Rolex's standard chronograph movement, known for its superlative chronometer timekeeping and 72-hour power reserve, continuing into the ceramic-bezel ref. 116500.
