Rolex Day-Date 18238
Rolex Day-Date 18238
The Day-Date is one of Rolex’s cornerstone watches. It has served as a symbol of power and success since its inception. Originally released in 1956, the Day-Date soon became one of the most desirable luxury watches of its time. The reference you see here is the 18238, part of the next generation of Day-Dates released in 1988. Upon its launch, it replaced the ref. 18038 and helped transition the President design from its vintage origins towards a more familiar modern look.
Most notably, the 18238 was the first Day-Date to feature the calibre 3155, a movement representing a significant improvement over the previous generation calibre 3055. The 3155 was the first Rolex calibre to feature a double quick-set function, allowing both the date and day display to be quickly adjusted, differing from the single quick-set on the 3055 which only allowed for a quick-set date. Outside of its upgraded movement, the ref. 18238 is the quintessential Day-Date, complete with its classic namesake dial configuration, solid gold 36mm case, and fluted bezel, altogether presenting one of the most elegant and wearable watches around.
