Louis Moinet merges watchmaking with urban architecture in the Metropolis. The design uses shapes, proportions, perspectives, and layers, much like architecture, to create a three-dimensional piece.
Metropolis – A New Concept
“The aim is to capture the spirit of Louis Moinet and embody it in a modern, urban design,” explains Jean-Marie Schaller, CEO of Ateliers Louis Moinet. The Metropolis watch combines ergonomics with style, moving away from neoclassical conventions to a contemporary approach.
Design Features
The watch features three levels of skeletonization: hour markers, dial, and lugs. Its 43.2mm steel case is built around two vertical bridges that secure the strap and hold the movement’s housing, topped by the bezel with six screws. The case is composed of 55 parts, ensuring a well-proportioned and wearable design.
Dial and Movement
The dial aims to create lightness with Roman numerals suspended mid-air, linked to a central ring and neoralithe flange. Underneath, a partially opened magic blue plate reveals the balance and escapement. The proprietary LM45 caliber movement, developed by Louis Moinet, offers a 48-hour power reserve and classical decorations like Côtes de Genève and diamond-cut angles.
Strap and Clasp
The watch is complemented by a hand-sewn Louisiana alligator leather strap with a folding clasp adorned with the Fleur de Lys, symbolizing Louis Moinet.
